Better payment processes, reduction of complexity, elimination of compliance and audit risks

DACHSER, a family-owned company headquartered in Kempten, Germany, is one of the leading logistics providers. DACHSER provides comprehensive transport logistics, warehousing, and customised services in two business fields: DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics and DACHSER Road Logistics. The latter is divided into two business lines, DACHSER European Logistics and DACHSER Food Logistics. With a staff of around 25,000 employees at 437 locations all over the globe, Dachser generated revenue of EUR 5.3 billion in 2014.

The logistics provider moved a total of 73.7 million shipments weighing 35.4 million tons. DACHSER operates globally using the modules SAP FI and CO. In the wake of the international SAP roll-out and in the context of the SEPA migration, the Group sought a system via which its international payment processes generated by the ERPs could be standardised. The aim of this solution was to meet SEPA compliance requirements and take account of the fact that DACHSER uses various bank formats worldwide in order to communicate with their financial institutions.

With the SAP roll-out and in the context of the SEPA migration, the Group faced some of the following challenges:

  • High costs and inefficient work due to manual intervention in the payment runs between SAP and the heterogeneous bank landscape
  • Excel-based reporting systems with high error level and imprecision
